Grant Davis Has Been Racing More Than Half Of His 26 Years
Grant Davis won an A-Main at Tri-State a few weeks ago and if he can do it again in the Super Stock Triple Threat Weekend, he'll pocket $3,000.
Grant Davis has been racing for more than half his life. By itself, that would not be notable until one considers that he is one of the young guns in this week's Super Stock Triple Threat Weekend at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, OK, at the age of 26. The event will be streamed live beginning Friday at 6:30 PM CDT on FloRacing.
"I started where I was 12 years old at Tri-State speedway," Davis said. "From there on I've just been basically at Tri-State, Crawford County, and Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee."
Davis has had his share of recent success on Tri-State's 0.375-mile dirt oval, and that could give him a leg up on the competition.
"[Tri-State] is our main track; it's where we go every weekend, pretty much," he said. "We won the last time we were on the track, which I think was three weeks ago. We won the A-main over there."
Knowing where Victory Lane is located could be extremely profitable during the Triple Threat Weekend because this event is made up of three self-contained nights of racing, each of which pays $3,000-to-win. Winning two or even all three of these could make a huge difference in how competitive a driver can afford to be for the remainder of the season.
"It's very exciting especially with having a win this season already," Davis said. "Typically, we don't get stuff like this. We have one $5,000-to win-race here, but other than that we got to travel to go to any big shows. It's wonderful; it was a great idea. I think (track promotor) Tommy New was the one to come up with idea, and I think it's excellent."
Like most of the drivers in the field, Davis comes from a clan of racers -- but with a twist. Most of his family raced dragsters, with his brother occasionally slinging some dirt alongside him.
"Typically I'm the only dirt racer in the family," Davis said. "I'm from a family of drag racers. My brother isn't racing this year, but he's raced at Tri-State with me. We just do it as a family. No big sponsor names or nothing. We're just family orientated."
With his brother out of the car this weekend, Davis only has the rest of the field to worry about. With a total of $9,000 on the line, that will not be an easy task.
