Tyler Erb Advances Three Spots In The FloRacing Late Model Power Rankings
Tyler Erb's second-place finish at Fayetteville Motor Speedway pushed him up the FloRacing Late Model Power Rankings and he's ready to challenge the leaders.
Nine of the top 10 in the FloRacing Late Model Power Rankings shifted this week as the World of Outlaws and Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series got back into action after a spate of rainouts.
Both series were able to get two races in the books. Shane Clanton, Scott Bloomquist, Brandon Sheppard, and Jimmy Owens each visited Victory Lane during the four races, but Tyler Erb was the biggest advancer among the top five.
Racing with the Outlaws at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC, and Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, NC, he added two top 10s to his record, which made him perfect in that regard for the past 60 days. Since finishing sixth at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, his worst result with the Outlaws has been ninth. That is enough to move him up to fourth in the standings.
Shannon Babb continues to hold the top spot by virtue of not racing and breaking his perfect record of top fives. His last race was April 8 in the Bad Boy 98, where he finished third.
Sheppard had an almost perfect weekend. He finished second at Cherokee on Friday and then dominated Fayetteville en route to his third victory in the past 60 days. Sheppard has also been the busiest driver in the top two divisions of late models with 10 features spread across both series to his credit. Notably, his record has been hurt by a 20th-place finish in the Bad Boy 98.
Bloomquist is beginning to inch his way back up the standings after back-to-back struggles. He landed outside the top 10 in a pair of events in late April. His victory in the Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence Speedway in Union, KY, seemed to get him back on the right track, but a mid-pack finish the next night at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN, kept him from bounding up the rankings. He advanced only one spot and settled into fifth.
Owens had much the same weekend as Bloomquist, only in reverse. He finished just outside the top 10 at Florence but rebounded nicely to win at Tazewell. Owens has been steadily improving with three top 10s in his last four outings in the Lucas Oil series. He earned a fourth-place finish in the Schaeffer Spring Nationals two weeks ago, but he also has four results outside the top 10 and that is good enough for eighth on the chart.
Clanton's win at Cherokee seemed to come from out of nowhere -- until one looks beyond the two major series. His overall record has him ranked 18th in the standings. A pair of poor performances at Whynot and Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, is to thank for that. But Clanton built a new car during the off week and debuted it at Senoia, GA's Senoia Raceway in the Ultimate Southeast Late Model Series and won. That gave him the momentum needed to win on the half-mile track in Gaffney, SC.
