Dale McDowell caught Brandon Overton in traffic during an Ultimate Southeast Late Model race Sunday night at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA, and proved -- at least to himself -- that the world is truly round.

"It's ironic," McDowell said from Victory Lane as shown on DirtonDirt.com. "Last night I messed up in traffic and Brandon [Overton] got by. Tonight he kind of got lapped traffic and I got by him. So, this world is really round I guess. What goes around comes back around."

On Saturday night, Overton caught and passed McDowell for the lead in traffic at the Talladega Short Track in a Southern All Star Series late model race.

It took most of the 40 laps for McDowell to find the preferred line. He worked his way up from fourth in tandem with Overton, who came from fifth on the grid. And at the time, it appeared traffic would be McDowell's undoing two nights in a row. Midway through the race, Overton rode the cushion around McDowell for third and pinned him behind Donald McIntosh.

Not long after, Overton caught Jonathan Davenport and passed him low.

McDowell watched the battle for the lead from third.

"The groove moved around," McDowell said. "I stayed on the bottom too long early, and the top got going. So I moved up, and the bottom got going. There at the end I was able to make a few passes (on the bottom) so it was a good night for us."

With two laps remaining, McDowell applied his knowledge and pinned Overton behind a lap-down car in turns one and two.

Overton took his loss in stride.

"It ain't too bad," Overton said. "We've got a strong car; that's the main thing. Car's running good, you're going to win and lose them like that. I got Dale last night in traffic, and he got me tonight. They've been working hard. They deserve to win."

McIntosh finished third.

"We had a good car tonight. Probably a better car than what we finished," McIntosh said. "We came here to test tonight, and I think we learned something.

"This place can race really good. It's always fun to watch here. It's the first place I ever won on dirt, so it's pretty cool to get a good run."

Jonathan Davenport and Michael Page rounded out the top five.
