After remaining perfect in American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) competition, Sam Hafertepe Jr. assumed the top spot in the FloRacing Sprint Car Power Rankings this week.

His victory in the Protect the Harvest 25 at Missouri State Fair Motor Speedway in Sedalia, MO, on April 15 extended his record-breaking winning streak to start the ASCS season to five straight. As Hafertepe continues to rack up victories, his 18th-place finish in a World of Outlaws race at Mesquite, Texas, earlier this year is having less of an impact on his place in the standings.

Part of the reason for his movement, however, was because Donny Schatz had an uncharacteristically difficult time in the Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite. In night one of competition, he jumped the cushion early after starting mid-pack and fell to the back. His 16th-place result in that race was not helped much by a 10th-place finish in the finale, but the strong start he got to the season allowed him to remain in third overall in this week's rankings.

Schatz falling two spots made room for Johnny Herrera to climb to second in the standings. Hafertepe has been stealing the headlines in the ASCS, but Herrera has been able to stay in striking distance with four top-five finishes. In the FloRacing Power Rankings, the difference between a first- and second-place finish in a 30-car field is only three points, so this spot could swap around as soon as this series hits the track again.

David Gravel lands fourth in the rankings. Like Schatz, he struggled in night one of the Texas Outlaw Nationals, but he rebounded in the finale. His 14th-place finish on Friday and second-place result Saturday night cancel one another out.

Brad Sweet jumped two positions in the rankings on the strength of a second-place finish in night one at Mesquite and a victory in the finale. Car owner Kasey Kahne was entered in both races, and one tends to pick up his performance when the boss is around.

Kyle Bellm almost cracked the top 10 this week on the strength of a strong run in Missouri. After a tough start to the year with a best finish of 12th, he found the handle in the Protect the Harvest 25. After starting eighth, he finished fifth, and that allowed him to surge 12 spots.
