Scott Bloomquist Retains Power Rankings Lead, Eric Wells Advances
Scott Bloomquist not only maintained his lead this week in the FloRacing Late Model Power Rankings, he extended it as poor results aged out of the formula.
Scott Bloomquist remained the leader this week in the FloRacing Late Model Power Rankings.
Both the World of Outlaws and Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series took the weekend off, but since this formula looks at the past 60 days, the averages continue to change.
Bloomquist got his season off to a relatively slow start. He advanced to the night one feature of the Superbowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, GA, through the B-Main, sustained crash damage, and finished 26th. That earned minimal points. His worst result since then was a seventh, and that is offset by two wins.
Shannon Babb has not made very many starts in the two biggest late model series this year, but he has been perfect in the top five. He finished fifth on both nights of the World of Outlaws' Illini 100 at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, IL. He was third in the Bad Boy 98 at Batesville Speedway in Locust Grove, AR, in Lucas Oil competition. Whenever he shows up next, Babb will almost certainly run well.
Brandon Sheppard remains third on the list due to three victories. One of those wins will age out of the formula next week; however, and that could cause him to fall. Sheppard's previous outing came in the Bad Boy 98, and he finished only 20th. He advanced in the combined rankings because of some big moves in the sprint car rankings.
Eric Wells was the big mover this week. He advanced eight positions up the charts with consistently strong finishes and five top 10s in six races during the past 60 days. The only time he has missed that mark came on April 1 in the Illini 100 in night one. He finished 10th in the finale, and that result could factor negatively in his average unless he gets some more top fives soon.
2. Shannon Babb, 91.67
3. Brandon Sheppard, 86.13
4. Eric Wells, 83.83
5. Billy Moyer Sr., 83.5
6. Tim McCreadie, 82.00
7. Dennis Erb Jr., 81.00
8. Kyle Bronson, 80.67
9. Devin Moran, 79.33
10. Chris Madden, 79.17
