The Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals Series is returning to action on Friday, April 21, at Crossville Speedway in Crossville, TN, and Saturday, April 22, at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN.

The series will hit its halfway mark at the conclusion of the Crossville race. If the first four events are an indication, the points battle should be tight. On the strength of a weekend sweep in Kentucky on April 14-15, Brandon Overton has a 24-point lead over Donald McIntosh, who won at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, on the opening weekend.

The season kicked off with Michael Page grabbing the lead from Dale McDowell at Senoia on the first night of the two-day show. McDowell remained in second with McIntosh coming home third. 

The next night was McIntosh's turn. The reigning champion battled with Overton for the entire night with the final pass for the lead happening on the last lap. Despite banging off Reaid's No. 41, McIntosh made the move stick and beat the field back to the checkers. 

Afterward, McIntosh sent a note to Reaid on Facebook: "We parked it tonight I can't thank everyone enough what an awesome race track you can race all over (shout out to TJ Reaid buddy I'm sorry I was committed by the time I realized you were gunna be there)."

Overton finished second in that race, and it left him with a taste for more. He gorged himself in Kentucky. 

Overton dominated April 14's race at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY. He had to survive a miscue at Florence Speedway in Union, KY, but he was victorious in back-to-back races. 

In Friday night's show, he got the jump on Jason Jameson when the green flag was unfurled and never looked back. 

Saturday was a little less certain. Overton sat on the pole but lost the lead to Eric Wells on lap eight. Devin Moran passed Wells for five trips around the track, but it did not take long for Overton to recover. He was back in the lead by lap 18 and did not relinquish it again. 

Overton was challenged in the final few laps. He jumped the cushion in turn four, giving Mike Marlar a chance to challenge. Overton used traffic to his advantage and kept Marlar at bay.
 
The pair of victories allowed Overton to climb into the points lead over McIntosh entering this weekend's races. 

Crossville will hold its first Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals race on Friday.

Volunteer Speedway's history in this series dates back to 2013 when McDowell and John Blankenship won its debut at the track. Last year, Marlar and Chris Madden graced Victory Lane.
