Last Chance Showdown: Hard to believe Shane Stewart and David Gravel had to come through the B-Main, but with their 1-2 finish, they at least advance. Gravel wins over Stewart. Ian Madsen and Ryan Smith round out the transfers. Smith is going to make his 1st A-Main in the Kings Royal. That means first-timers bracket the field, with Duncan on the pole and Smith shotgun.
With a flat tire, Knipp exits early.

C-Main: David to the Outlaw Goliaths: Clyde Knipp wins the C-Main and keeps his Kings Royal hope alive by advancing to the B-Main. Max Stambaugh, Craig Mintz, Joe Swanson, Max McGhee, and Dan McCarron also advance to the B-Main.

Jason Sides and Christopher Bell were the two fastest in qualification who failed to advance through their heats, so they line up 19th and 20th.

Heat 6: Determines the pole. Sole Duncan is a bit of a surprise pole winner, making his first Kings Royal. James McFadden and Sammy Swindell also advance.
Heat 5: The Big Cat Brad Sweet wins and will start on the outside of the front row of the A-Main. Brian Brown and King Steve Kinser's son Kraig also transfer.
Lady Lighning Paige Polyak got into 6th and that puts her into the B, but she avoids having race out of the C.
Heat 4: This Joker's Wild... Jac Haudenschild refuses to be outdone by his son Sheldon - grabs the lead early, survives a restart, and wins. That will line him up on row two next to Sheldon. Logan Schuchart makes  his second Kings Royal with Brent Marks also transfering straight to the A,.
Heat 3: Sheldon Haudenschild made a quick move to the bottom on the lap-five restart and snatched the lead from Kerry Madsen. That's only fitting since it's how the Madman got the lead to begin with. Joey Saldana rounds out the transfer positions. Haudenschiled will start 4th.  Christopher Bell experienced engine trouble at the halfway point and coasted into the pits.
Heat 2: Tim Shaffer wins and will line up 5th for the A. Chad Kemenah and Daryn Pittman also advance. Notables Shane Stewart and Jason Sides can't quite get into the top three.
Heat 1:  With the inversion, Donny Schatz started 5th. He passed two cars on the final to laps to win over Lee Jacobs and Rico Abreu - who also advance straight into the A-Main. Brady Bacon blew an engine with two laps remaining. Schatz will start the Kings Royal 6th.

Opening ceremonies are in the book - and it's time to crown a king. The top 3 advance; the next three go to the B-Main.

Donny Schatz sets the fastest lap in time trials and is prepared to win back to back Kings Royals. Jason Sides rebounds from a tough couple of nights to set second fastest time with Christopher Bell, Jason Johnson, and Kraig Kinser rounding out the top five.

Hot laps are in the books and Joker's Wild winner Kerry Madsen, followed by Kraig Kinser (impressing his father Steve, no doubt), Ian Madsen, Knight Before the Kings' Royal winner Christopher Bell, and Brad Sweet.

It's almost time for the 34th annual Kings Royal. Donny Schatz won it last year; tonight's Grand Marshal Steve Kinser has won it seven times. In a few hours, someone else will add their name to the auto racing history books.
