Tony Stewart was pulled over on Interstate 88 over the weekend, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune

Trooper Damein Cunningham included the text, "Just pulled over NASCAR legend Tony Stewart on I-88 in Dekalb IL, what you think I got him for? #NASCAR #ISP," in his tweet.

The tweet has since been deleted from Cunningham's timeline.

Stewart was not stopped for speeding, but rather for an improper lane usage. He was given a warning.

The photo in the tweet appears to be a selfie taken by Stewart and both parties are smiling.

"The department is aware of the post," according to state police spokesman Jason Bradley clarified Monday and would not say if Cunningham is facing disciplinary action.

Cunningham later apologized for creating a controversy.
