Brandon Sheppard Was A Big Mover In This Week's FloRacing Dirt Rankings
Shannon Babb makes his entrance on the combined Power Rankings this week with a sweep of the top 10 in three races. That wedged him into the second position. With him joining the rankings this week, sprint car drivers Sam Hafertepe Jr., Johnny Herrera, and David Gravel were unable to move up the chart despite each of them being stellar in competition and improving their Power Ranking numbers,.
Donny Schatz fell back four spots this week largely because of his struggles in the Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. He finished only 16th in night one's competition on April 14 and was 10th in the finale. That would be a good result for some, but Schatz was almost perfect at the start of the season and needs to renew his strength to remain in the top 10 on this list.
Late model driver Brandon Sheppard jumped up the most this week. His worst finish of 2017 was a 26th in the late model portion of the Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL. That is no longer being counted against him since it falls outside the 60-day look-back window. His three wins in the past eight races make him one of the top drivers in the four major dirt track series. Equally important, he managed to win in both the Lucas Oil and World of Outlaws series.
