Sheppard Riggs Racing announced today the team has amicably parted ways with Randall Edwards, the crew chief since last October of the Longhorn Factory No. B5 driven by Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill.

Edwards, 49, returned to Sheppard’s side last fall for a second tour of duty as Sheppard’s head wrench after previously filling the position in 2016 when Sheppard drove for Best Performance Motorsports. The pair immediately clicked for a $100,000 Dirt Track World Championship victory at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway and Gateway Dirt Nationals triumph in St. Louis, Mo., and through the first four months of 2024 have two wins and sit atop the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series points standings, but recent struggles have frustrated the team.

“Randall has been a great family friend for years and we cannot thank him enough for his efforts over the past six months working with our B5 team,” team owner Scott Riggs said in a press release. “Our season-long goal has been, and continues to be, to win a championship, which starts with running at the front of the pack competing night-in and night-out for the win. Right now we felt a change was necessary to find that winning synergy between driver, car and crew.”

Edwards also received gratitude for his service from Longhorn Chassis owner Steve Arpin, who called him “a genuine joy to work around these last six months” and said everyone at Longhorn wishes him well and looks forward to “continuing our support of him in his future endeavors.”

Sheppard Riggs Racing does not immediately plan any additional crew changes as the 31-year-old Sheppard will play the lead role in making calls for the team, the press release announcing Edwards’s departure noted.

Edwards hasn't revealed his racing plans.
